"I love being a Patriot!" 8th grade student Johnton Banks and school's Speaker of the House Representative exclaimed as he accepted the high honor of NAMSP 4th Runner-Up School of the Year at a prestigious presentation ceremony honoring the school. With budget concerns across the state of Nebraska and testing scores creating high-stakes performance for all students, Nathan Hale Magnet Middle School shined like a star with recognition of its success. The students, faculty, parents and staff have implemented an impressive Magnet theme for Leadership and Social Justice as well as a unique Expanded Learning Time program that is one-of-a-kind in the Midwest. Distinguished guests attended the ceremony at Nathan Hale Magnet’s auditorium on April 13th including congratulatory messages from Omaha Mayor Jim Suttle and Superintendent of Omaha Public Schools, Dr. John Mackiel.  Other guests offering support for both Principal Susan Colvin and the school included OPS Board Member, Marian Fey, Judge James Gleason, and a host of other business partners, community members, and parents. Nebraska Governor, Dave Heinemen who was unable to attend sent a formal letter of congratulations recognizing the schools’, “service, commitment…and the positive results you have yielded in your three years…” As a result of the award, the Nebraska Commissioner of Education, Dr. Roger Breed also offered his congratulations and has arranged to tour the school to gain further insight into its’ success. Congratulations, Nathan Hale Patriots!
